Tips for creating PERFECT BEACH WAVES

Beach waves are the number 1 request behind the chair these days. Most people want an effortlessly chic look, especially here in Florida. The weather is hot, humid and sticky. As a stylist, I do not like spending generous amounts of time on my styling, only for it to be ruined as soon as I step outside. My goal for the guests that sit in my chair is to help them with easy how tos for home styling. I call it “high maintenance looks with low maintenance effort.”

I like to kept a styling routine for hair anywhere between 10-15 min, and using the right combination of products to achieve that look.

Depending on your hair type/texture I recommend the shampoo/blow dry be the day before, rarely will hair hold a nice wave on same day shampooed hair since it’s slippery clean. Using the Aveda Shampowder dry shampoo, hit the roots of the hair to absorb any unwanted oils/sweat etc. Once you’ve done that section hair into three sections, a bottom, a middle, and a top.

Using a 1 inch barrel clamp curling iron take sections 1-2 inches wide and curl away from the face all while leaving the ends of the hair out, usually around an inch or so depending on the length of your hair. After all 3 sections are completed, flipping your hair upside down I then take the Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion (dime to quarter sized amount) and finger comb the curls out with that potion. It adds texture to those curls and gives a light hold.

Once you flip the hair back over smooth out any pieces that may have went a little crazy, usually this can be done by wrapping your finger around the curl. I, then, spray the Aveda Air Control Hairspray all over, this is a light hold hairspray but is buildable so use as much or as little as needed depending on your hair type.

Voila! You now have the perfect effortless beachy look/vibe without the damaging effects of the sun or salt water.

Pre and Post Haircolor Must Do

PreColor

Reservation

Detox your hair with a clarifying shampoo. This helps mineral build up and residual build up from hard water and products.

Post Color Reservation

Every two weeks, or as prescribed by your colorist, use a masque to rehydrate your hair to ensure color will stay. A stronger hair strand will hold color longer.

Each Cleanse…

Make sure you are using a color safe shampoo and conditioner every time you cleanse your scalp and hair.

Daily…

Every time you flat iron, curl or blowdry your hair, use a heat protectant. This will save your hair from so much heat damage .

Invest in…

your shower head. Replace your standard shower head for a water softening shower head. Your hair will thank you and so will your stylist.

CONSIDERING YOUR SKIN TONE + EYE COLOR when selecting a new HAIRCOLOR

When looking for inspiration for your hair to show your stylist at your next appointment it is a great idea to look at celebrities and models who have similar features as you. For example if you have fair skin and blue eyes some celebrities you may want to look at are Margogt Robbie or Cameron Diaz. Whereas if you have a dark skin tone and darker eye color maybe take a look at Mila Kunis or some Kardashians for your inspiration. This will help in finding the right inspiration for you and avoid washing out your natural beauty. On the other hand however if you do find the right color it can really accentuate your features.

So you may ask yourself where do I start with picking out my best hair color for me? First understand there are three different types of skin tones : warm, cool, and neutral. To decide your skin tone, hold the colors blue or green beside your face and then yellow and red. If you look good next to the green and blue color you are cool toned and if you look good next to the red and yellow colors you are warm toned. If you look great next to both you are neutral and can wear any color.

If you have a cool skin complexion you may not want to go too dark due to the fact that it may wash you out. Some hair colors that would look good on a cool skin tone would be anything that has a blue or purple base to it such as icy blonde or a raven black. Whereas warm skin tones may look better with hair colors with a yellow or red base such as a rich bronde or mocha brown.
